You don't want too much of the stick contents exposed at once or it will get squashed each time you use the lid. There is a certain amount left behind at the end of the life of the dispenser and that has been the case for decades with this product. There is ALWAYS some wasted material left which is frustrating and annoying. It is easy to design something more intelligent to not make that waste in the first place. However that would mean design and tooling costs which I doubt the manufacturer wants to spend money on.
