The activated can will the persist in even coverage for a thick even coat. Warning once activated the contents must be used! It was perfect for respraying a section of my car. For best results after use, wet sand surface then buff to remove any imperfections in the dried coat. **Q: Can this be applied over polished aluminium?** A: Further to my original answer, is there any reason why you can't key the aluminium surface with 800-grit wet and dry before spraying? The lacquer will fill in the scratches the abrasive paper makes and the surface will look like shiny aluminium once sprayed over with this lacquer. Just in case you don't know, keying a surface is to give it a complete light sand all over with a fine grit size abrasive, such as 800-grit wet and dry paper. This provides a complex surface with increased surface area to help hugely with coating adhesion. Even with car spraying, you can let the base colour dry (which will look like a really shiny, smooth surface) then sand it all over with 800-grit to scuff the surface and wash the dust away. The car then looks awful! But the final stage of lacquer flows into all the scratches made by the wet & dry sanding stage and the surface finish is restored back to super smooth and shiny but with the benefit of the hard 2K lacquer layer. You can polish the lacquer layer further once it is dry (24 hours). MY ORIGINAL ANSWER: You *may* experience balling-up of the lacquer as with many other products directly onto a shiny surface. It really is best to key the surface to avoid this. To get away with it, use *extremely* light coats as if you are putting on hair-spray - just a quick spray and fast hand motion unit there is visible lacquer spray all over. You may need to do SEVERAL VERY LIGHT COATS until the can is exhausted with say 10 minutes in between each one. I can't stress enough - very light coats and don't worry if you don't coat all over with one spray. Wait, then do some parts you've missed, then go back and start again over the top, and so on. Your final result, dry after 24 hours or perhaps longer in these winter temperatures, could then be abraded with wet-and-dry paper (800 grit to 1200 grit and possibly use with copious amounts of water on the wet and dry paper and the object to get a smoother sand).
