Within a week of being outside in the rain, it was getting hard to get the key in and out as the lock cylinder rusted up. The rubber coating and seals are mostly for show, letting water in but the bottom seal over the keyhole does not let it out again so the lock just fills with water and starts to rust. In order to open the padlock and remove it from my shed door, I had to take the rubber seal off the end of the hoop, it wouldn't take long to lose that. I've now binned the padlock and replaced it with a stainless steel and brass one that is designed to be left outside rather than just being a cheap padlock with a leaky rubber coat. I had to use a small hammer this morning to loosen up the cylinder to get the key in so I could take the lock off to throw it away.
