There is a convenient locking cover to prevent debris from entering the key slots, which is good considering it is meant to be on the ground. As for a chock, it works, but since you can't make a solid connection to the wheel or wheel rim, there will be play. It's my opinion, the chocking feature is only to prevent it from being stolen. The only way to ensure it is used as a chock is to move the vehicle/trailer forward/backward to ensure the wheel/rim is resting on the lock itself. Have used this extensively on a VERY expensive enclosed motorcycle trailer with no issues. Understanding that this device is a deterrent only and won't stop a determined criminal, incorporated with other deterrents on the trailer, it will "slow them down".
