Out of the box, this plane will almost certainly require careful sharpening of the blade and careful fettling to make sure that it is correctly setup. Is chip breaker/cap iron flat & bevelled or curved/bent near the front?** A: This plane is painted black and then machined on the mating surfaces. The cap iron is the traditional curved style. **Q: Is this plane good for chipping off wood from a cricket bat in order to lighten it ?** A: Well it's been a long time since I played cricket but I'm pretty sure that the bats have slightly convex, not flat surfaces, so this plane would work but not be the best tool for the job.
