For a metal to react with sodium hydroxide solution it's oxide must be amphoteric, not just basic. Easiest ignited with a small blow torch or other blue-flame lighter, rather than matches or your Zippo. Just remember that once it's burning, it's also melting, and can drop extremely hot fragments, so play with it outside and/or over water. One weird thing - the ribbon is actually two ribbons, wound together in a double spiral. Overall about 7cm in diameter (with a small central hole) and 5mm wide.
