Then, the answer is probably, yes. I personally use it to check "unknown" USB ports before plugging in my expensive equipment. Plug the tester itself into the port and check that the voltage is reported as between 5.0 and 5.15V with no load. Then plug in a "known good" device to the other end of the tester and check that the voltage remains good (above 4.9V) and the current drawn is "about right" for the device plugged in (can be very variable). If this all seems good then plug in your "suspect" device and check again what happens to the output voltage and current drawn. **Q: Does this device support USB 3.0 for faster data transmission?** A: It definitely does not support USB 3.0. I was very disappointed when I realised as I’d not have paid as much as I did. **Q: Can I measure energy consumption on my laptop while running applications as Energy from this tester?** A: This device will only tell you the out put voltage of the usb socket it’s plugged into. The power consumption is only displayed when you plug a usb peripheral into the pass through usb socket but then will not show the power consumption of your laptop but only power consumption that’s plugged in the the pass through usb socket of this device. You must have some kind of software app on your pc/ mac to show you the power your computer used while running. The drive shows up in Explorer and I can read and write to the drive. Seems a little slow though - maybe only running at USB 2 speed. Also bear in mind that the USB hard drive is externally powered with its own 12V mains adapter. No support for usb c and that mean not possible to check pd chargers who provide faster charge. So for my s10 45w and 25w chargers I can't use this. I think best suited for QC 3.0 chargers.
