From ~55C to ~40C, Supermicro dual xeon

*by B***N on Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2019*

I have one of those 2U, 12bay supermicro servers with dual E5-2630L v2 processors and 128GB RAM. The mobo model is X9DRi-LN4F+ Rev 1.20a. I run Centos 7 with at least one windows KVM (IP POE cameras/Surveillance, blue iris), and a few docker containers (Minecraft servers, and VPN). The rear CPU (CPU 2 on the motherboard, CPU 1 in linux) was staying around 50C-60C and had me worried since its near max. The front CPU (CPU1 on the motherboard, CPU 0 in linux) was always reading 25C-33C. Most of the air that the rear cpu gets comes from the front cpu, so it gets warm air. I purchased only one heatsink+fan and seems to be working well. I placed it on CPU2 (CPU 1 in linux), the rear CPU.Heres my temps after its been running for a few hours. "Package id 0" is the front processor that I did not change because it gets the cold air right off the case fans. "Package id 1" is the rear one and was always running hot in the high 50s, low 60s.coretemp-isa-0000Adapter: ISA adapterPackage id 0: +32.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 0: +29.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 1: +31.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 2: +32.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 3: +31.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 4: +29.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 5: +25.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)coretemp-isa-0001Adapter: ISA adapterPackage id 1: +41.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 0: +41.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 1: +38.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 2: +38.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 3: +40.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 4: +37.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)Core 5: +38.0°C (high = +57.0°C, crit = +67.0°C)

Suppresses BIOS Alerts on Thermal Issues

*by M***M on Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2014*

It has been working satisfactorily for nearly four months in a study-den environment with limited external circulation. The machine does not run 24 x 7 but the temperature attains steady state. Compared to the other "monster-size" components for the same purpose, I must confess that I feel that Murphy's Law is inevitable. The only solution naturally is to improve the external circulation or use a better enclosure that has a few more fans than the current box.

    Great compact LGA2011 cooler

*by R***E on Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2018*

Fit my Xeon LGA2011 cpu perfectly and it needed to be small to fit a rack mounted case. Under low loads you can barely hear the fan, which was a worry for me. Under heavy loads the fan gets a little louder and more noticeable.
