If you want to filter from the bottom as well you would need a Y splitter connected to the pump inlet, but it may stop the surface slimmer from working efficiently. The skimmer is a very temperamental item. I found air lock issues were a big problem until I reduced the length of pipe between the skimmer and the pump to a bare minimum to prevent the pipe from rising up towards the surface. Always switch off the pump before cleaning the collection filter receptical of the skimmer or you will get the air lock problem. I find that my large pond with 10 large koi and 5 other fish, filters/clears the water well without a bottom filter. **Q: Extra threaded collar included in my skimmer box, what is it for?** A: Dropp a good size pebble in basket. Tap the outer piece to free the air . **Q: Will this remove leaves in autumn if cleaned iut twice a week?** A: It will certainly help, but the most important factor is that you use a pump of the correct rating otherwise it simply won't function properly (or indeed at all). I connected via a 10k l/h pump to a drum filter and it works brilliantly. I cut large holes in the bottom of the basket so that leaves and debris would get taken to the drum, so the baskets never need emptying. It's on a timer and keeps the surface of the pond (about 15 sq. metres) clear when running for a couple of hours a day. **Q: Have quite alot of surface air bubbles would this help in their removal** A: Yes, it will not eliminate them completely, but will draw them into the skimmer rather then them be sat on the surface.
