It turned out that the ‘a’ represents Alarm. After exchanging messages with the seller it seems I have ordered the wrong pump which is now installed, minus an alarm and cannot be exchanged. I am no wiser as to the reason why the alarm didn’t sound? the visual alarm ‘beacon’ would not have been visible without lifting the lid and still wasn’t visible when examined, or why I couldn’t find the pump with an alarm in the search.
