Neil med contains 2.0 g of sodium plus not-listed baking soda. To be isotonic with the blood's usual max. of 0.145M sodium concentration, there should be a max. of 2.01 g of sodium per 8 fluid oz. of water (yes, I am a certified master chemist with a graduate degree from IIT). Overdoing it by 15% -as is done here- should be negligible and possibly beneficial since it would tend to make blood vessels push out liquid and reduce pressure but it's probably dilute enough to not have any effect. Note that 0.7 g of baking soda increases the molar concentration of sodium by only 0.02, which is negligible. **Q: My Doctor said just use distilled water and not saline. Does anyone else do that?** A: I use distilled water and one packet of powder which has all the impurities removed already for you. I've had really bad sinuses and allergies for years and it was getting to the point where I couldn't even breath through my right nostril, yet within a few days of using this once a day my sinuses feel so much clearer and I can actually breath! I haven't used it in a few weeks as I've been so busy so my sinuses feel blocked up again, which just shows how much it worked for me. It was awkward at first as it felt really weird and I swallowed most of the water (!) but I realised I wasn't fully breathing through my mouth, I was actually half breathing through my mouth and nose so half the water went down my throat! I fill it up to the writing on the pot and use half or even a quarter of the salt sachet at a time. I use it either once a day or every other day. I use filtered water in the pot.I've had a nasal blocked nose for nearly 20 years. I've always used a nose spray. I tried a prescription steroid one from the doctor too but it had no positive effect on me.After the first go at this product i could tell my nose felt more clearer. I still get a blocked nose at some point in the day, and i'm using my nose spray. But i'm using it less than i usually do. The amount of rubbish that came out of my nose was insane, I'd been suffering from a head cold for 2 weeks and this cleared it up nicely after only a couple of uses.The sensation of using this product is not as bad as you'd think.
