Review: Bumpy brick - Previous owners had a lean-to that they decided to paint the "inside" of, leaving a big white block of paint to deal with. Gave this stuff a go and it works well but did take a fair bit of effort, mainly because of the bumpy surface meaning the paint got in every little nook. Things you will need - a power washer, a hard bristle brush and patience. Slap the stuff on using a big paint brush, the spatula thing they give you will take forever. Push the sheets into it and tape the edges. It didn't come with enough sheets to cover the area I needed but a dust sheet does the same job. Next day peel off the sheets and sponge down to get the upper layer of residue off and then power wash. Be warned though, this stuff will go everywhere, didn't matter in my case thankfully as everything around it is being replaced anyway. This got about 75% of it off but still clearly visible amounts of paint so repeated the process with a 2nd coat. This took it off to about 90%, at this point you're just going to have to suck it up and get all the little remaining bits off with a hard bristle brush and then jet wash again. For flat surfaces like wood, metal and some bricks this will be a breeze but for bumpy surfaces it's a bit of a job. So a bit of a faff but ultimately did the job.
Review: Scrub-away but works like magic - Should be called scrub, wash, scrub-away as it doesn’t really peel but did an incredible job that no other paint stripper could achieve. Went from painted patchy brick (from other paint strippers) to fully gone and restored brick. Would use again. Make sure to use a dish brush followed by small steel brushes to get the milky paste off but it works. Before and after in photos.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What area would this 4kg tub cover at say 3mm application on brickwork?**
A: As a guide coverage is approximately 1m2 per kilo at 1mm thick. Application is between 1mm to 6mm e.g. 1mm when removing varnish only.
So 4kg at 3mm thick will cover just over 1m2

**Q: Would this product remove a bituminous paint on masonry?**
A: Thank you for your question. Neither of the Peelaway products will remove bituminous coating I'm afraid.
I hope this helps - Alison - Wood - Finishes - Direct.

**Q: Does any know if this is better than Biostrip Plus? Im trying to strip santex of an outside wall.**
A: I am not familiar with the Biostrip, but the Peealway is a very effective and fairly mess free product in comparison to some other strippers. The poultice can be left for the required length of and then pulled away with the paper cover. I would recommend the sample pack first and test areas as this will give a true indication of whether this is the right product for your project. For further advice please feel free to call and speak to one of our friendly advisers on 01303 213 838 - Wood Finishes Direct.

**Q: Does this come with the blankets or do I have to buy them as well?**
A: Yes, the blanket and spatula are inside the tub in a bag

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Scrub-away but works like magic

Should be called scrub, wash, scrub-away as it doesn’t really peel but did an incredible job that no other paint stripper could achieve. Went from painted patchy brick (from other paint strippers) to fully gone and restored brick. Would use again. Make sure to use a dish brush followed by small steel brushes to get the milky paste off but it works. Before and after in photos.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Scrapeaway, brushaway, takeshoursaway….. not peelaway 😃
*by S***N on 16 July 2025*

Good stuff…. But it shouldn’t be called peelaway, more like scrape, brush, and elbow grease away. The owners of my house before me decided to patch up the mortar on a beautiful bare brick fire gap with silicone filler then white wash it with emulsion…. yes you decide… So I coated it thickly with this stuff and waited 72 hours checking every 24 hours. I scraped off a panel at a time from the top down with a decorating scraper and caught most of it in the plastic sheet. A wire brush and water made a milky paste so I decided to try a wet towelling cloth then changed the water. Brush, cloth, change water, 3 times in all with a mini trowel to pick out the silicone. 90 mins per half square meter. It is doing the job though where other paint strippers haven’t. I am convinced this is the best product for taking paint off brick, others have suggested using a pressure washer but than wasn’t an option for me inside. Is was gloopy to apply and a ball ache to take off, yet it’s done the job to a rustic finish which is what I wanted, may need to do a bit of repointing though as a lot of mortar came away with all the scraping of the silicone. Wear gloves, keep your arms covered and undress straight into the washing machine, then shower, this stuff smells like almond paste and burns like hell 😊
