It took me days to finish it and I couldn't leave it alone. The edge pieces are all very similar, so it makes the traditional approach of "edge pieces first" pretty much impossible. There's so much detail in the puzzle that you can find out where the pieces go with a magnifying glass and a bit of geographical knowledge (used Google a lot to find out which ocean an island should go into).
