Many people fall into the trap of NOT rolling them up properly and ending up with a mishapen ear plug that ends up sticking out of the ear. You should be able to get pretty much very distant sounding loud sounds, like snoring if you roll them and insert and hold them gently in your ear as the foam re-expands. The snoring noise that is driving you bonkers will die down once they're in. Still faintly rhythmic and loud but it doesn't bother you enough that you would be unable to sleep. So noise reduction is very very good.
