No matter how you twist the whistle to adjust the sound it can and will be heard by the dogs AND humans. It says something about a locking bolt to keep the whistle in the position you find works for your dog??? haven't found that yet. AND if you wear it around your neck on the lanyard, the whistle barrel will unscrew. Luckily I caught it before it came off. It gets my dogs attention when I blow on it. They seem to have quieted down a bit since using the whistle. It is definitely not what the description says it is, i.e. silent and ultrasonic.
