Review: These are great locks, providing extra security and peace of mind. - I've been using the Enfield version of these locks for years and have to say they have been really good. Recently (after 10 years of use) one of the locks jammed in the locked position - which was very difficult to fix seeing as I couldn't get into the garage. I'm putting the lock failure down to the fact water got into it and I hadn't oiled it enough. We eventually got it open but I needed to replace the lock fast. The Enfield versions didn't offer next day (or even 2 day) delivery so I thought I'd give the ASEC versions a try, seeing as they were available for next day express delivery. Sure enough, they arrived before 10am and were fitted to the garage by 11am. As these were replacing existing locks, I didn't need to do any drilling but even so, the drilling bit is pretty easy provided you measure up first. 5 holes per lock is what you need. 2 for each coach bolt, one for the lock hole, 1 for the shackle bolt to pass through the side of the garage door and 1 in the frame where the shackle bolt secures. If you want to fit the scutcheons, then you'll need to drill a further 2 small holes to secure it to the door with rivets or screws. For anyone replacing Enfield locks, the ASEC are identical in every way. The quality is the same, the size is the same and the bolts are the same distance apart. They are a direct swap. The keys on the ASEC do seem a little cheaper than the Enfield versions but they actually slide into the locks easier and encounter no resistance. I have had the Enfield keys twist and break on me a few times but those locks did seem stiffer to operate. For those reviewers saying they find it annoying that the keys can only go into the lock in one orientation, rather any of the four possible positions, you are right. However, each key has a dimple on the thumb piece which indicates the orientation the key needs to be in. The dimple needs to be on the upper side. The Enfield locks were the same and having the dimple takes away the guess work, even in the dark. As a testament to the locks, there were a lot of break ins in our area and on one occasion the entire row of garages were broken in to. The scallywags had jimmied every door open, taken what they wanted and set fire to the lot of them. The only garage to survive was mine. You could see where they had tried to bend the bottom of the door up but the locks had stopped them going higher than the shackle bolt. The police and fire investigator said that the locks had done their job and saved my garage and my car within. So, if you want to keep your garage door secure and protect the contents inside, fit a pair of these locks.
Review: great additional security to garage - After moving house - I found out that the previous occupier had the garage forced open (crowbars) These locks were easy to install by myself and I'm certainly more reassured that my garage door is now much more secure. Product is great and looks neat from inside and outside The locks can be operated from both inside and outside the garage - if you have an internal door. Minor gripe - as mentioned by others - the screws to attached the keyhole covers are slightly too long. SO you may need to swap them if you door isn't thick enough 3 keys are supplied and make sure you have the dot (on the key) vertical when inserting the key, else they won't work. Probably worth trying the keys in the mechanisms several times before inserting to make sure you're OK with how they operate. great product for the money These are a good alternative to the Garage Defender - which would not work in my situation due to drain in-front of garage door. The asec garage door lock is great !

## Questions & Answers

**Q: i want to be able to unlock this from the inside - is that possible?**
A: Yes you can unlock the Asec garage door lock from the inside the key fits from the outside and from the inside

**Q: Somebody has got hold of my keys. Is it possible to change the barrel?**
A: no

**Q: Is lock compatible with roller garage door?**
A: The lock will stop the door from moving in whichever direction (i.e. for an up and over door they essentially stop forwards and backwards movement, whereas for a roller garage door they will up upwards - and downwards - movement. Hence you could get creative and have more stops to stop the roller door at different heights).

**Q: what diameter is the actual bolt please?**
A: From recollection I guess the actual bolts to be between 12 and 15mm but, due to the nature of the locks, they are good additional security for garage doors. Maybe buy them first and then buy the drill bit needed for the bolts, if that's the issue.
I love these bolts as a good addition to customers' garages.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Installation headache
*by J***N on 22 January 2026*

I’ve given these locks 4 out of 5 stars because of the total lack of detailed and helpful instructions that come with them. In theory they should be easy to fit but in practice they’re anything other and the process could be made so much simpler by the manufacturer. A template would really make life easier. Firstly there’s no help in positioning them, pretty much no garage door, metal ones anyway, are flat, so judging where the holes come thru for the fixing bolts takes a lot of working out as they need to be on a flat surface, as does the surround for the keyhole. Secondly drilling a level hole from inside the door so close to the metal skin is next to impossible! The first one I fitted, I drilled a total of twelve times using different sized drill bits and constantly checking fitment, as the shoot bolt needs to glide easily in and out. With the second one I installed, I made a packing plate out of billet to hold the lock 20mm away from the inside of the door, meaning drilling the hole was a much simpler process, just a pilot hole and the 13mm bit you’ll need for the correct sized hole. This is another point, you need a lot of fairly large and good quality metal drill bits to make the correct sized holes for the various jobs. Once fitted they work pretty well and are supplied with three keys. One further thing, the external facing fixtures are bright silver but can obviously be colour coded to the door making them less obvious, I’ll be giving mine a coat of black hammerite in the better weather, whereas the shoot bolt is bright gold and is very obvious sitting between the door and the frame, this IMO should be black also to draw less attention and make it’s purpose less obvious. In summary a good quality lock, from a good manufacturer, that adds another level of security to your garage, they’re just a bit of a head scratcher to fit
