Review: fair price for a fairly decent winch i was surprised by the 3 point lock and spring .and its strength. - good item fair quality .fair price personally i would lubricate the steel cable . it comes with a slight anti rust coating which will need re greased if its going to last . greased up it should last a few years of sea/ marine use . i would like to add the end attached to the winch is looped round some holes so i placed a tie there for safety . the winch is strong enough to hold a 5 metre rib or lighter boat and 40 hp engine and wind it on the trailer . i recommend it for fibreglass boats in the 16 foot range . or lighter . for safety. re-grease the cable . and you should get a few years use out of the winch before considering buying a replacement or new spindle bolt . it is a fairly heavy part . and should be secured well . it is not recommended for towing as it could snap the steel cable . the cable length is 10 metres . so long enough to launch a boat with into a lake or harbour slipway ,then some to spare. not a light weight winch . 3 bolts and lock nuts required for fixing to trailer. each purchased seperately . fixing bolts are around 8mm so 3 of 8mm bolts and lock nuts and washers are required for secure fixing. there are 5 holes on the back of the winch for fixing two at the top sides and 3 centrally spaced with slots etc . . Well Pleased. **Q: Could the cable be easily replaced with a washing line? And would it then allow the line to be pulled out, clipped on, and taughtened by the winch? Ta** A: A washing line isn't strong enough and would break but what I would advise is to buy any length that you require of 50 mm nylon webbing which is similar to your car seat belt and has over a ton breaking strain and because its 50mm it will not tangle and is kind to your hands. Then find a hook that you can stitch on to pull whatever you've got. **Q: Does it have auto stop, when unwinding would it stop if it was let go? Thanks** A: No it doesn't if you thinking of some sort of dead man lever. It only has a rachet preventing it unwinding when pulling things. **Q: Can I reverse the side of the handle on, do you sell with the handle on the other side or will it work OK if i mount the other way up?** A: No it is not possible to reverse the handle and I can't see any other way to mount it to do what you want.
