The 2012NB is double insulated. Review: Wood is thicker than oughta - Works a dream - a good sturdy piece of kit although I haven't had it long and cannot comment on it long term. It is simple to use. I have tried it on oak, teak and spruce thus far and it coped with all of them really well providing an excellent finish. The one flaw is that you have to attach the dust extraction cover; it is supplied but it is not integral. Without it there are wood shavings everywhere; the thicknesser produces a lot! While, if you have space you might leave it attached, if, like me, you have limited space and restricted storage, the thicknesser folds nicely into a cuboid without the dust extraction cover and, thus, as such, I remove it every time. However, it is reasonably simple to attach and remove. Review: Absolutely Fabulous! - Straight out of the box, perfect shaving of quite large blocks. I have a big range of makita tools, and this is a valuable edition to my set. I purchased a Draper 10923 50L 1100W 230V Dust Extractor with my Makita 2012NB. Together, the two work really well but you have to keep emtying the bin regularly; it's amazing how much chippings you get from the solid wood. I am really pleased with the Makita. **Q: Is this a Thicknesser/ planer, or just a planer ?** A: It is just a thicknesser (although in the USA that is called a planer).
