## Description

From the manufacturer

Review: Economical Load Balancer easy top set up - I now have three separate Internet lines to from sky and one from talk talk connected into this route. For this to work I took the standard sky and talk talk routers that they supplied and connect them to the respective phone lines by their filters. Each of these routers the two sky and the talk talk required their subnet IP addresses changed to be unique. Thus there were typically 192.16 8.4.1 I simply connected a standard patch cable from the LAN of each of the routers into one of the ports of the load balancer. In configuring the load balancer one had to change each of the LAN points to be a WAN point. As well as give the load balancer its own subnet IP address which in fact I left as default. I then connected its WAN port to my main network switch and from there of course all the computers are attached. The key point for me was having to discover that the routers of sky and talk talk required their IP addresses and subnet addresses to be changed to be different to my load balancer. Once this works traffic was being rooted through the three separate broadband lines that I had. While this did not increase the speed on speed test because of course they are not bonded . An analogy here is that one adds extra two lanes to a motorway which allows more cars to travel along but still they are limited to 70 miles an hour. The fail safe certainly works if I am plug one of the broadband connectors then I still have Internet connection. I do not think there is a way that one can increase the speed from a single computer by bonding the broadband connections in the UK. Nevertheless the product worked out of the box and had it working in about 30 minutes. A very cheap and practical solution.
Review: Just the job! - I look after an item of mobile equipment that required plugging in to a fixed network point to upload data. This was inconvenient to the customer so a wireless adaptor was fitted. Unfortunately there was only one network interface on the equipment so there wasn't an option of having a wired connection as well as the wireless, in addition the wireless and wired networks were in different static IP address ranges so a simple plug-in solution wasn't possible. All was okay until the wireless network failed and the data couldn't be uploaded! This device was the perfect solution. The mobile equipment was given a 'private' IP address on the LAN side of the router, the wireless adaptor was plugged into one WAN port and the equipment's network cable connection socket was connected to another WAN port. The router was configured for the wired connection to be the primary WAN and the wireless adaptor to be the fallback. So in normal use the router is actually running in a fallback situation but when the cabled connection is plugged in the router automatically sends the data over the cable. This means that a wireless network failure further down the line won't stop data transfer over the wired connection. Phew!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: what speed are the ethernet ports 100MBps or 1GBps?**
A: It is not 1gbps. It is 100mbps. I have the TL-R470T+ in hand and have tried it out and it is definitely 100mbps. If you have a faster than 100mbps broadband or ISP - you need a different product - try the TP-Link R600VPN instead. Ignore the product description on this page - it is wrong and I cannot get my money back as I have binned the packaging and now cannot do a return. Do not be me!

**Q: How does this handle streaming high definition video from the internet , e.g. 4k video stream.**
A: The bottom line is it really depends alot on what you are actually doing and where you are getting the video from.I don't know what you know so I will spell it out.I am assuming that you are downloading video from You tube or Amazon prime or some such service. This is assumed to be a single point to point connection for download.AFAIK 4K Video is just a larger file than non 4k video and has nothing special about it in this context other than its data density per second of film is much higher. The router provides failover and load balancing for multiple ISP's. I have two and am adding a third. These are two very different things and the load balancing aspect of this router is probably not what you might expect or would want based on my assumption. What you probably want is what is called 'channel bonding' where two or more ISP's connections are made to act as if they are one single faster connection, and will otherwise smell, feel and act as if they were one connection. This router does not channel bond. It's load balancing provides a close alternative which you must understand to get its benefits. The actual ISP connections with this router are independent and used in isolation, or not, according to the routers set balancing instructions of which ther are 4 (2 * 2) major choices plus a few other minor varations. The router figures out how to use them according to your configured wishes. Balancing shares the ports out across all of its current connections, ths making it feel like you get 10Gb + 10Gb = 20Gb bandwidth when in fact you are effectiely using 50% less connections per port.Failover is used only when a connection was active on a now failed port and the router will automatically attempts a continuation of that connection on the other port. Sometimes this is not possible, as the protocol in use at the time may not allow that to happen. Skype is one example.A single connection is allways over ONE outgoing port route, or another, never over two or more. So as there is no channel bonding you cannot get an download speed advantege from this router, unless your video download is via some sort of torrent like service where parts of the feed come from several different remote addresses, each requiring additional connections for that sub part of the file, will you get any added bandwidth advantage at all. It can do that, and does it very well. This router is not all things to all men, but its the closest thing to heaven for my needs and now I understand how it behaves I have enough control and flexibility for most scenarios.

**Q: i bought this, could anyone please give me a step by step instructions for setting it up with two 4g lte sim card routers.**
A: You need to download the manual from the TP-Link website as it shows the various protocols for connections

**Q: Is the connection failover on this?**
A: Yes, in a way. To failover, we setup 99% balance main connection, 1% balance on the backup connection, so both are connected at once. Then, if the main connection fails, all usage goes to the backup connection.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good

Seems to do everything I want, which is to give my children one adsl line while the adults get another (thereby saving arguments.) The ideal solution if you're in a poor internet area and need two incoming ADSL lines to satisfy the household demand. Worked almost out of the box, it came with a european type lead, so a new lead had to be got before it worked otherwise it would have got 5 stars.
