It will play flawlessly, as all DS games play on the 3DS/3DS XL and New 3DS/3DS XL. **Q: Is there a order in which I should play these games** A: Not really. Each one is a self-contained story and can be played in any order. Some of the games have certain references to past entries, but they are mostly nods. **Q: Is the post-game content optional?** A: Yes it is. But it has some great extra items if you do play on **Q: is this game a reproduction?** A: It depends on what you mean by reproduction. It was undoubtedly manufactured a lot more recently than the original game considering the format this version of the game is on wasn't invented until decades after the game came out in 1992. So in that sense, yeah it's a reproduction in that it was made pretty recently. What I can tell you is that it is based on the original Japanese-only version rather than the version released in the United States back in 1992, and so will look and probably play quite differently. I can't be more specific because I ordered this erroneously (I was unaware ot was in DS format rather than the original 8-bit cartridge I meant to order). So if you had that particular American release in mind (and especially on a Nitendo 8-bit cartridge), this is NOT the game you are looking for. If you do want the Japanese version however, then go for it. Like I should have originally though, also be sure you're getting the proper game for what medium you are using. This game is on the Nintendo DS (which is very different from the original Ninendo player this game first came out on). This is the only time where I made that mistake, but it's one mistake I will never forget.
