Ignition of suitable tinder couldn't be easier. Nice and chunky (8mm x 80mm) so 10 should last the rest of my life! I've tried scraping them with various sharp things, and had no surprising failures. A shard of flint (stone) or broken bottle (glass) will do the trick nicely if you lose your knife (use the 90deg spine to save messing up your blade edge). Remember that it's the sharpness and hardness of the scraper/striker that matters, not what it's made of! Can be drilled *** BUT *** only very, very slowly. Very impressed as I thought they would give off little spark. I was wrong they are going to be perfect for my bushcraft fire lighting teaching as they give off a decent amount of sparks with little effort. I will be attaching handles on and have used flint as a striker. Cost was very cheap but will do the job very well. I will be buying more.
