## Description

Air Plants (Tillandsia) get their common name from the fact they don’t require soil. They are epiphytes, which attach to other plants or trees for support. Their roots are only used to anchor themselves and are normally removed during cultivation for aesthetics. They are not parasitic, instead they gather micro nutrients from the air and water in structures called trichomes on their leaves. As the plant dries the trichomes take on a white powder look. After watering the plant will return to a vibrant green. Air Plants must dry fully between watering because they are susceptible to rot if left wet to long. These Air Plants will only bloom once, but after the bloom they can form up to 12 “Pups”, or offspring, at their base. The main plant will slowly be on its way out, but the Pups will continue to thrive and will separate when mature. Air Plants prefer filtered sunlight as their natural home is under tree canopy. This makes them perfect house plants. Air Plant care is pretty simple. Upon arrival give your plants a good hour or two soak in a shallow bowl of water. Place the plants root/base side up and out of the water. The base is the area susceptible to rot if left wet too long. You can mist the plants a few times a week or repeat the soaking once a week or a combination of the two. Just remember the best thing you can do for your plant is to let it dry completely between watering. Air Plants like as much filtered sunlight as they can get. Anywhere within 8 feet of a window that gets light for the better part of the day will work. If that’s not possible they can live on artificial light, but the source has to be pretty close like a desk lamp. As a special treat you can collect rainwater for your Air Plant, the nutrients in rainwater or pond water are more abundant than in the air or tap water, but this is not necessary.

Great House Plant for Small Apartments

*by A***Y on Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2015*

I've purchased 3 of these air plants so far. I can agree with the other reviews that the primary picture on this listing is a little more saturated than the actual plant. But for a little color enhancement, I'd say it's an accurate portrayal. The pictured plant has a budding flower and I don't believe the plants are shipped when they are flowering. All of the plants I've received are without the flower. What's great about air plants is that they require practically no upkeep. When the plant initially arrives, you soak it for a couple hours before popping it in a glass terrarium with access to indirect sunlight. Mist the plants every other week and fertilize with liquid fertilizer once a month (optional). They're an attractive living ornament and a nontraditional approach to houseplants.Especially great for smaller living spaces, the air plants don't take up any room on your shelves, since you can just hang them in a window (or anywhere else, for that matter).

    Easy to Care for??

*by T***R on Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2017*

This plant is technically easy to care for, except the fact that it requires rain water instead of regular water. So yes I put a cup outside and collected some rain water and put it in a spray bottle. Unfortunately, I am running out of rain water and don't see any coming soon. Also, the purple flower in the middle - it didn't come like that and I have yet to see it bloom. I've had it about 4-5 months.

Nice plant until I killed it

*by R***E on Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2016*

I got this little guy to try my hand at air plants instead of succulents in a terrarium. It arrived quickly and was well-packaged with instructions on how to care for it. Then I left it in my car (forgot to actually bring it into the office) on a 90 degree day and it promptly died. It was a good looking plant before that, though. Note that the plant is pretty small (as described) and does not come with any flowers (apparently they only flower after some time with proper care).
