I found them very useful. I also printed off the previous years papers off of the government website. A few weeks before the test week, every other night after school I went through the test with my son. I then checked through the results to see if there were particular sounds he was weak on and then I would practice reading words with the specific sounds in them. As a result he got used to the test format and his phonics reading improved. He did very well in the test. I think I did notice there were a couple of sounds that didn't feature as much as others so you need to keep an eye on that. But be aware that there are many more words - both real and nonsense that exist in preparation for the check. So don't just rely on these words.
