This telescope does not have a motor that follows the movement of the stars, although I have seen you can get one for a reasonable price that fits to this tripod. **Q: Am wanting a telescope for my 9 yr old son, I want a telescope that once set up he can use on his own. Is this the one for me??** A: The German Equatorial mount that telescopes of this kind use can be a bit of a learning curve. The telescope you are looking at is a Reflector and is a great all-round scope. Another telescope type is called Dobsonian and the stand for those don't really require any setup.
