It depends on whether the child is still into make beleive at 8 yrs old. I have an 8 yr old son and he would not want this toy, but my daughter aged 6 would. I bought this for mt daughter when she was 4 and she loves it. It is really nice for travel too, because everything fits in the little case. **Q: The cat did not have a wound on its back as shown in the photos. Is it supposed to?** A: I thought the same, hold it in front of a cool fan or AC and the scar will appear. **Q: How do you get the stitches to appear?** A: The cat's stitches disappear by rubbing over the mark several times.
