It is also a nice match for small to medium-sized telescopes, like the Celestron C90 or C5. The aluminium legs of the Celestron Heavy-Duty Alt-Az Tripod are fully adjustable to best match the height you require. Minimum height is 32 inches, and the maximum extended height is 45 inches. A centre brace stabilizes the legs in place when the tripod is open, and a metal accessory tray is fitted to the centre of the brace, or spreader bars, allowing you to store a few accessories close at hand. The alt-azimuth tripod head is made of metal and is controlled in two ways. To make large adjustments in altitude, simply grab the mount and move it to the desired location. A friction clutch installed in the head will hold it in position. Large movements in azimuth can be achieved by loosening the azimuth lock and then manually moving the mount. It can spin 360ΒΊ with the lock disengaged. Small movements are best made by turning the slow motion control handles. They work good for following objects as they move across the night sky. However, the scope weight is probably at the maximum limit of what the mount will handle. If astronomy, then no. I tried this tripod with my Celestron 20x80 Skymasters. It sits too low and the alt/az knobs get in the way. Anything above 30 degrees is uncomfortable. Even if on the horizon, the adjustment knobs get in the way but it is more usable. If you want to look at the stars, get the Orion Paragon Plus. This mount is probably better suited for a small telescope. **Q: Does this tripod come with rubber pads at the bottom of legs for setting it up on hardwood floor?** A: Saw the pegs off, I did. Mine was on a wooden floor and it's wobbly and slides all over the place because of the pegs on the bottom of the legs. I got a hacksaw and carefully sawed each one off flush with the bottom and then put non-skid pads on the bottom. The tripod is about 10 times more stable now on the wood floor and I highly recommend you do the same. Just right for a small telescope or heavy camera. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five Stars *by A***R on 20 March 2018* Sturdy and holds VERY still my Celestron C90. ### ⭐ Not up to standard *by M***E on 5 October 2025* I have had Celestron equipment before and always been happy with it, however this item failed to meet the standards I have seen in the past. First the centre brace is very flimsy and relies on a lightweight plastic tray to screw in place to try and stiffen it. Now we come to the head unit , this would not move I eased off the main bolt a little but the movement was very rough when rotating the unit. Likewise the tilt function was locked solid but easing the holding nut just a little resulted in the movement been two loose to the point I would not trust it with optical instruments attached. It seems like the whole head unit needs stripping down cleaning and greasing which is something you do not expect to have to undertake on a new item. Also due to condition of the inner retail box makes me wonder if this item had been opened before.
