Tightly rolled in the packaging but I weighted the ends down when I unrolled it and it stayed flat after a couple of hours. It would work well as a hall runner, and do the job of protecting the carpet from dirt.But what I actually used mine for was to stop my cats scratching at the carpet. Cats hate closed doors! It works beautifully. I cut it in half then cut each peice to fit a doorway, under the door and around the frame at both sides. The doors shut easily over it, it lies flat so is not a trip hazard, it is clear so doesn't spoil the look of the carpet, and so far it has stopped the cats scratching.
