The quality of the casing is excellent, the artwork is great and the discs all came securely attached in the DVD holders- I have had issues in the past with damaged cases/holders (even from brand new purchases) however these came secured and unwrapped. The season is split into two cases, with all the Season 1 episodes. The quality of the episodes is great! There is occasionally a blurry outline that lasts seconds on some scenes- but only worth mentioning to be accurate in review. I prefer to watch DVDs with subtitles, which aren't available on this set- but it doesn't seminish it at all and the sound is clear, sometimes a little loud lol Nostalgia feels and just good honest fun, "kids" shows aren't made like this anymore- moral and intelligent questions are raised and issues around self confidence, friendship and integrity are addressed without being cheesy or in your face about it. Review: Finally Digimon Season 1 arrives in the UK! - For those of you not in the know Digimon Season 1 is a 54 episode TV series with each episode lasting around 20 minutes. The show focuses on 7 kids who are transported to the digital world where they meet Digimon and go on adventures together. The series is divided up between 8 discs with 6 or 7 episodes per disk. The only extra is the butterfly japanese opening and closing credits. At the time the show aired in the UK (2000) a lot of comparisons were made to Pokemon however to do so would be doing Digimon Season 1 a big disservice. Yes they both have creatures in that fight however unlike Pokemon there is a lot more at stake. Often the kids are at risk as the Digimon they fight are evil or have been turned evil by a black gear they need to fight the evil Digimon to save other characters or get out of difficult situations. Digimon have 5 stages of evolution that are In training, Rookie, Champion, Ultimate and Mega. The Digimon are in rookie form the majority of the time and digivolve to champion and later in the season ultimate forms as the enemies they encounter get stronger. This is one of the major differences from Pokemon as they can change back once they have digivolved. They have villians that span several episodes and watching the Digimon digivolve to take them on and fight is good fun. Also there is a lot more character development than in Pokemon as each of the characters are fleshed out over the course of the 54 episodes and the whole group learns a lot more about themselves and change from the first episode to the last. For a show that is aimed at kids it does not shy away from tackling bigger issues like adoption and divorce as well. I would highly recommend Digimon Season 1 to anyone who watched the series as a kid as it is still just as good now as it was then! Fifteen years after the original run of Digimon: Digital Monsters, the time has come when it was finally released on DVD, perhaps to coincide with the anniversary and six-part movie sequel. It was released in the U.S. already a few years back but Manga Entertainment have finally done the right thing for fans everywhere by expanding the release to us in the U.K. and beyond! The set contains fifty-four episodes over eight discs (two DVD cases with four DVD's per case) and has a total run of 1095 minutes, is in the English dub and is a Region 2-encoded collection. Season two is to be released in November 2016, and the First Anniversary movie in December 2016--be sure to pick them up, too! I cannot recommend this first iconic season highly enough.
