I am an avid caver, climber and canyoneer - I get out just about every weekend, one or both days, and all my vacation time is outside - I have been doing this solid for about the last 10 years. I need a helmet that is versatile and lightweight. I like the suspension helmets better than the foam-padded ones, and just didn't care for the offerings of the usual recreational brands after trying many on. It is well ventilated and fit my small head well after I added some velcro foam padding. I like the comfortable chin strap, my headlamps sit securely on it, and it's overall a great helmet.This helmet probably saved my life on Sunday when I fell 15-20 ft due to an anchor failure in a canyon. I fell on my side and hit my head on the side so hard it damaged the suspension system. I lost consciousness for several minutes and have a major concussion. Due to wearing this helmet, I was able to exit the canyon after two more large rappels under my own power (and thankfully with fireman's belays from others in my party). Had I been wearing a helmet that didn't fit as well, wasn't as well designed or built, or my ancient and beloved Ecrin Roc, I am certain I would have needed rescue (and had I not worn a helmet at all, it would have been a recovery not a rescue). The side impact protection was extremely important in this case - I have a huge bruise/sore spot/lump on the side of my head and face.I promptly bought another helmet which will arrive Thursday this week.
