Review: Fantastic Series, Terrible Packaging - In terms of the series itself, I cannot praise it highly enough, and that is why I have awarded 5 stars. If I was to award a rating for the packaging, however, it wouldn't even scrape one. The reasons for that are pretty straightforward. If you are one of those people that is not unduly concerned about discs getting covered with a variety of scratches, scuffs and abrasions, (and are subsequently bewildered when the product ends up not playing properly), this may well be the box set for you, but if, like myself, you are aware of the impact that any minor scratches have on the playing quality of the disc, then steer clear of this box set and buy each series individually instead. It is a common phenomena nowadays; laziness in terms of overall product design, from people who clearly do not have a degree in engineering, or common sense. Thus, when it comes to removing these DVDs from their packaging, a crow bar may well be in order. It is that bad. Plus, the discs overlap, which is just plain stupid. Who thought this was a good idea? It reeks of 'can't be bothered, this'll do'. As for the series itself, Robson Greene, Hermione Norris, and Simon Lahbib are all stellar, plus the supporting cast are excellent too. Green in particular really brings the role of Tony Hill to life, and has piqued my interest in the Val McDermid books this series spawned from. The plots are excellent, and often gripping, plus the dialogue is highly realistic and very often quite witty. Green's character is a distinctive individual who provokes interest through his talent at what he does, and is quite rightly the focal point of the series. I wish they had made more of these; it ranks amongst my favourite crime dramas, and I have watched many. Now, if only I could do something about the cheap packaging...
Review: Five Stars, Despite Lack of Subtitles - As a lover of many crime series & police procedurals, I discovered over the last several years that I found very little holding up to par in the U.S. While I enjoy action as much as the next person, I soon realized that show after show was a little forensics, an arrest of the wrong person, followed by car chases & shootouts. At times, there would be potentially interesting & complicated plots, but everything is rushed, to fit into 42-45 min. (without advertisements). & let's not even go into the acting...ugh. So I went browsing, & rented the first & second cases of Wire in the Blood. So many things caught my attention. While they were chopped into 45-50 minute segments, there were two acts for each case, so effectively 90ish min to give a complete story. Watching a show in the U.S., you can come in halfway & easily figure out what's happening & who the killer(s) may be quickly, & here I needed to take it in, & pay attention. The acting - well, a good sign for me is when I can discern a role fits an actor so well, it doesn't seem as if they're acting. & everyone seemed to fit that bill! Before WitB, I had seen criminally little acting from the U.K., so Robson Green & Hermione Norris, along with the great supporting cast, were all strangers. The settings, stories, & writing all intrigued me, & I later purchased a few Val McDermid books (excellent). I then purchased the series, & now, over a year later, am watching it through for a fourth time, I believe? I do give this show five stars, but that's not to say everything is perfect or rosie. I'm sure everyone has their highest & lowest ranked episodes in mind, as do I, but my one gripe would be...no Subtitles or Closed Captions! Since my 'discovery' of fantastic U.K. acting, I've since purchased many series, & found that about half of what's only available there comes with them. Despite this, the series is top-notch, frightening, cerebral, with a big dose of violence & suspense. An absolute must-have for anyone who enjoys a crime series. & I also must put in here that...while some of the other series I have purchased come close, Wire In The Blood is still at the top. Well done!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wire In The Blood - Brilliant!
*by C***1 on 16 January 2013*

Wire in the blood was great TV series and I am gutted that they are not making any more! The series follow a Major Incident Team with the assistance of Dr Tony Hill (Robson Green) a clinical psychologist. Series 1-3 Green is joined by Detective Inspector Carol Jordan (Hermione Norris), and series 4-6 he is then joined by Detective Inspector Alex Fielding (Simone Lahbib) who I personally think is a great actress especially from her roll in "Bad Girls". It mainly concentrates on how Hill can get inside the minds of serial killers and therefore helping to catch them before they make their next move/murder. However, we do also see how the close relationships between Hill with Jordan and then Fielding develop. This complete box set is great, and I managed to get it at a good price of around £17, I have seen the price of this box set increase to quite a lot, but I waited until it was a lower price. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, it was a brilliant Crime Drama.
