The rules haven't comprehensively covered every situation in which we've found ourselves but we've quite happily made up some of our own to fill the gaps. The 8 year old finds it tricky towards the end of the game as considerable strategic thinking is required but it's a good challenge for her. I am glad that I choose the deluxe edition with acrylic tiles. The game is presented well and there are resealable packets and pouches for all of the various parts which is very handy. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good family game *by R***K on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 September 2016* Good family game especially if participants are of mixed age and ability. The underlying concept is easy to grasp ie being the first to get rid of all your tiles by laying them down matching on picture and/or colour so play can begin immediately and strategy can evolve. The reward for multiple matches in a single move is a blue or yellow gem stone (which really appeals to the children and the acquisitive amongst us) that can later be used to purchase additional moves. What is nice about this game is that it is a blend of luck and skill, but there are ways to mitigate both. If you can't match 4 tiles to earn a sunstone (yellow gem) you could aim to land on one of the sun squares to win one. If the boards current set up doesn't play to your hand, you can use the wind tile to blow away a tile and give you an advantage. If you haven't got a wind tile you could buy one, and if you have too many gems at the end of your turn you lose the surplus. In addition you can distribute wind tiles differently across players at the start of the game if you wanted a more level playing field for mixed ability players.I bought the deluxe addition because the game is played using all tiles and I wanted them to last. The game is well made and the gem stones are attractive. My only criticism is a niggle that the board bends the wrong way so at the end of the game tiles have to be picked up and placed in their bag instead of being slid into it off the board.I think Latice works best for mixed age and ability, the closest game I own to it is Blockus which is also immediately playable with simple rules. However in Blockus, although all players begin with the same tiles, winning depends almost entirely on strategy and there is no way to handicap the best players to even up the chances for the less able player. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent *by A***R on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 August 2017* A very good strategy game for all ages - our seven-year-old granddaughter joins in, but there's plenty of interest for older players. It's easy to learn and quick to play, with a good mix of skill and luck. While it's best with 3 or 4 players, it still works well with only two.
