The single top cover ( for the whole box) lifts out completely. **Q: Could you please tell me the size of the 5 compartments?** A: 1st compartment (marked morning) is 24.5mm long x 34mm wide x 20mm deep. The bottom of all compartments are half moon shaped.The other 4 compartments are the same size - 20mm L x 34mm W x 20mm DThese are all internal dimensions. **Q: Do the daily boxes come out so that I can take just that day's pills with me when out in the day?** A: Yes. The tray is a holder for the week, but each day's compartment is separate and portable. Slide top also stays shut so pills won't fall out or mix up if you put the day's box into a pocket or bag. **Q: Is it BPA free?** A: I bought this for my sister and she did not like it at all she found getting the tablets out very difficult and so she stopped using it.
