Review: The No. 1 Decaf Coffee for me! - I stopped using decaf coffee a long while ago because of the chemicals used to decaffeinate it and which were giving me side-effects. Talking to a friend, he asked me about the process, so I did some in-depth research and found out that 'Swiss Water' were the only company to decaffeinate coffee beans using mineral water - so no added nasties. This spurred me on to try it - and it is perfect! I have had no 'reactions' to it, the taste is smooth and not overpowering. I take mine with Rude Health Organic Rice Drink (also available from desertcart) due to a lactose intolerance, and it is simply delicious. This is my second bag and I have also just received their coffee bags, which will be great when I go away or visit friends. Yes, it is rather more expensive than other brands, but then you are getting a great coffee, which doesn't contain Ethyl Acetate or Methylene Chloride which are usually used to decaffeinate coffee beans, and that is why it is good value. I'd rather pay a bit more and know what I am consuming - to me it's worth it.

**Q: Do I need to use a cafetiere for this ground coffee.?**
A: You can use filter method, machine or the one you put on top of a cup( I use this way).

**Q: Is it good in a perminant filter as most have dust that gets through it**
A: The grind is omnigrind, so that it is between filter and cafetiere grind, so it's suitable for permanent filter.

**Q: Can I mix it straight with cold water like ground coffee from sainsbury/tesco?**
A: Sorry, we’re a little confused. It’s roast and ground coffee, so you can add cold water to it if you like, but just to be clear, it’s not instant coffee.

**Q: Question for the Makers,  is this coffee is lab verified; pesticide, heavy metal & mould toxin (mycotoxin) free?**
A: With regards to mould toxins/mycotoxins, Brown Bear do not do checks on the coffee for this.

Any coffee company that says they do mycotoxin checks would need to check every single bean, so we would question the idea of a guaranteed mycotoxin-free coffee brand. 

Other coffee brands that state they are mycotoxin-free may have a certificate of testing, but that would only be for 1 sample of coffee - not all coffee, so we would be cautious of such guarantees by other coffee brands. 

In fact, we would recommend you ask coffee brands that do offer mycotoxin-free coffees how they can guarantee this?

I've always enjoyed good coffee but having recently switched to only drinking decaf I have found it difficult finding good decaf coffee. With this coffee my search is over and I can once again really enjoy my cup of coffee.

Good product, makes a decent ristretto, with good texture, the roast is medium, possibly at the beginning of medium dark, which i enjoy, the notes i get are mostly chocolate and a hint of caramel, it's full on hot chocolate with caramelized notes in steamed milk, with no obvious oily residue on the beans, or ashy or burnt taste when brewed that you usually get from most decaf beans, which giveaway the fact those are cheap beans roasted to a char to hide the bad notes, not these these though, they're a solid substitute for caffeinated beans, for me, these are used for latte or flat white after 5pm, gives me my coffee fix without all the caffeine.
