I don't know if the metal pegboard sheets are perfectly flat but they seem to light up well next to each other. You have so many options with these so they can work for any set up really. The Pegboards are 12 Inch by 10 Inch and you can mount them vertical or portrait. You can mount them under desk or above desk, You can use 2 sheet or 2 sheets. You could even mount 2 sheet about desk and one sheet under the desk using the same mount. If mount one under your desk you could use it for all sorts of things from cable management to headsets/controller storage. My biggest gripe about this product is that it doesn't come with as many accessories as I would like so I ended up buying extras. There is loads or room for you to do awesome stuff with this pegboard just not enough accessories for me. The shelves are really cool though, they have sturdy metal pegs and magnets on the backside of the shelf to help lock it in place. They feel very sturdy.
