You need to cut your down drain pipe and insert the fill/over-flow collar. Rain water runs down the inner surface of the down drain pipe and collects in the collar then flows to the water butt along the connector. The same connector, should the water butt become full, takes the excess water back to the down drain pipe by the clever design of the collar. Instructions are provided on how to set this up and it works flawlessly a little care is needed in measuring the appropriate place to cut your down drain pipe accounting for the water butt base height and that the collar on the down drain pipe is no higher than the top of the water butt lid otherwise the water butt will overflow at the lid before the return mechanism can work. **Q: How do I get the lid off?** A: Just pull it! There are no hidden clips, it just takes brute force - once it’s set up you don’t need to take it off though **Q: Would the fitting kit work on a cast iron downpipe?** A: Yes but the down pipe, being much heavier than plastic, would probably need to be secured back to the wall. You’re going to need to cut a small section out of the cast iron pipe with a grinder, fit the fitting and then re-fix the bottom section of the pipe. Very good value for money and well made. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The water butt is fine, the base is fiddly and I replaced it *by G***. on 6 July 2023* The water butt itself isn’t of the highest quality but does the job well. The fitting to the Downpipe was easy to fit but I installed a new wall bracket to the Downpipe just above the fitting as once this was installed the pipe seemed very wobbly. The stand that come with this is one of those four piece stands that ‘clip’ together. I had no confidence in this stand, partly because it does not provide a flat surface for the butt to stand on. I have a feeling that overtime the weight of the water, pressing down into the hole in the middle of the stand will eventually cause the butt to break.
