Would 1/4 inch max indcate a fault?** A: If you can get a spark to reach 1/4 of an inch on a sparkplug your doing well as your only talking mm with a sparkplug if it's for something else I'm sorry I can't help you but this tool is only an indicator as to how good your spark is hopefully this helps you **Q: Will it fit a bmw** A: Basically it will fit anything that uses a spark plug, in my opinion it should just be called an ignition tester rather than an actual spark plug tester. I take the HT lead off the spark plug, push the brass end of the tester into the HT boot, ground the bulldog clip and turn over the engine to check for spark.
