Thinking have starting wood carving as a hobby.** A: I think they are more for men than for women. Some are adjustable with velcro, but what I did was get some of that green or brown narrow tape that you will find at most carving sites. My grandson wanted to learn to carve, so I bought some of that tape and made a custom guard and it worked really well. The tape is sort of sticky and wrapping it around the thumb several times makes a nice guard which in my opinion is better than the pre-made one size fits all guards. You can get the tape on most of the sites that sell carving hardware or just put "thumb guard tape" in your search engine and it will probably get you where you want to go. **Q: my thumb is 1" wide at knuckle, would this fit me? if won't have an idea where i could order one. i'm cursed with huge hands and feet** A: My thumb is 1" wide as well at the knuckle. It is a little snug for awhile, but then after it is broken in it fits good. I hope that helps. **Q: how large is this guard?** A: I have a medium sized hand and the guard fits well until the elastic over the top wears out. I just use first aid tape to keep it on at that point. It is a good guard. I especially like that the leather comes down an covers that fleshy part between the thumb an first finger. **Q: why don't you have extra large? Large is too small** A: I agree an I had the same issue.
