Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide is designed for the maintenance of landscape beds. More than 400 labeled species and varieties of shrubs, wildflowers, trees, flowers, and groundcovers may be treated with Ornamec 170 applied as “over-the-top” applications without risk of plant injury. More than 200 additional species are listed according to the risk of plant injury, with recommended application. Used in and around newly emerging ornamentals and transplants, as well as in established plantings, Ornamec 170 stops grass growth within 48 hours and death occurs within 1 to 3 weeks.

Review: Worked to control a bermudagrass infestation in my coastal Maryland fescue lawn - This product, Gordon's Ornamec 170 Grass Herbicide, worked really well to control the bermudagrass in my coastal Maryland (Zone 5) lawn, which is mostly tall fescue in the sun and Black Beauty in the shade. It doesn't seem to harm the desirable grasses. I had a 10-foot bermudagrass-infested patch that was resistant to the usual Spectracide Weed Stop for Lawns or similar products; despite repeated applications the bermudagrass seemed to shrug it off. This product is not an instant kill - don't expect the bermudagrass to die the next day. It took a couple weeks to really see results. But after two growing seasons, that patch is finally totally gone. I added a surfactant when I mixed it, because it looked like the as-directed mix just rolled off the grass leaves, and it needs to coat them so it's absorbed. I used the "Southern Ag Surfactant for Herbicides Non-Ionic" and it helped.

Want to increase your chances of eradicating Bermuda grass? Best way to get rid of this stuff permanently is to use a hard metal teeth rake first. Rake the heck out of the area where Bermuda grass is. Hit down to the dirt with the teeth of the rake. You will see all the Bermuda grass pulling up vertical exposing the dirt and deep vines. Do this for the whole area and also do 3-4 feet around the area ya think it stops. Most likely you will still be pulling up vines. When ya finally get to where there is no more. Rake up all the loose stuff and throw in a trash can. All the remaining Bermuda grass that is standing above ground spray it all down very good. I used 2 ounces per gallon and a surfactant (a must so it makes the poison stick to the vines/leaves). Bermuda grass roots can go as 6 feet down in the ground. Average is about 6-8 inches. So its very hard to get to the roots, which is why you have to kill this stuff with poison through absorption of the leaves. The vines can travel just under the surface dirt for 6-12 feet no problem. I was pulling vines up that were 8 foot long into areas I didn't think I had Bermuda grass. This is how this stuff spreads so quickly. Soaked the whole area and was able to get to the vines and leaves closest to the ground now that it was pulled up off the ground. This stuff is so thick and tight nit at ground level its hard to reach it with a spray if you don’t do what I said above. Plus this increase your chances of eradication. Once it all turns brown. **Q: Do I have to mix it with anything or just alone over the top of my ornamental plants?**
A: For tank sprayer application, recommended, add 2 oz. of Ornamec 170 to 1 gallon of water.  I used Ornamec 170 to eradicate Bermuda grass in my lawn.  I did not apply to ornamental plants.  There is a "Directions for Use" included in a collar plastic bag with each bottle of Ornamec 170, which includes "Over the Top" plant application safety for ornamental plants.plants

**Q: I have liatris in my flower bed and i want to apply this product to remove bermuda, will it kill liatris and monkey grass also?**
A: Read the label for specific information, so far it hasn't killed any thing but grass for me. I have sprayed it on Monkey grass with no apparent problems yet. I don't have any liatris. Please note it may take multiple applications to get the Bermuda gone and also that Bermuda does grow back (spreads) from its rhizomes so the battle is always ongoing. plan on using it for a while if not forever. I carefully spray it along the outer edge of the stones that edge my beds. That seems to help keep it out. Not perfect but it helps.

**Q: Can Ornamec be applied to grass weeds growing among Asiatic jasmine ground cover without damaging the jasmine plants?**
A: Although I don't grow Jasmine ground cover, I have used Ornamec around all the plants that I do grow.  Remember that Ornamec is for grass not weeds!  Read all the information that comes with Ornamec.

**Q: What if it rains the next day?**
A: I live in Zone 9 and we had a lot of rain this year. Rain didn’t seem to interfere so long as I applied the Ornamec liberally the day before. It works really well for me for Bermuda grass but you have to be patient and spray throughout the season to finally kill it.

Simply put. It works. Have Bermuda grass? Bermuda grass is horrible and extremely hard to get rid of for good. Want to increase your chances of eradicating Bermuda grass? Seemed to have killed all the bermuda grass on top. After one application, it deadened some of it, so after 30 days, I reapplied and it seemed to have a great job of killing it without killing my bluegrass. I can't give it 5 stars because I don't know if it killed the roots or not until next growing season. FYI, has a very, very strong smell similar to gasoline.
