I was surprised how much compost they took - you do have to put quite a lot in to make them stable and they are deep, so I rolled the top over and that helped. I use them for hostas mainly. Would recommend this size for larger plants like small shrubs. The plastic is strong - I have put crock in the bases, although holes are already in them. I am confident they can be washed out and reused next year.
