It is a non-poisonous pipe jointing compound which is clean and easy to apply. It acts as a lubricant whilst the joint is being assembled and tightened and does not set hard enabling easy dismantling for subsequent alterations to the pipework. The compound is suitable for use on taper threaded connections made from mild or stainless steel, malleable iron, brass, bronze, copper, other metals, fibreglass and PVC. I was advised to get some to use to seal screw threaded components which are not under pressure - so draining water. I have used some to seal an outflow from a urinal. It sort of works, but not particularly well. Apparently, you need to line the thread on the male part with "string" before applying Boss White. I didn't but it still worked. But the liquid passing the joint is not under pressure. So, to answer your question, it is not a substitute for an olive or ptfe. **Q: Can this be used on gas joints** A: I believe so but please check with a Gas Plumber/Engineer. A lot of safety involved in gas work. **Q: Is this for sealing under/around the round metal piece that you place in the hole in a sink that ultimately you put the plug in?** A: If it's the threaded part yes but you need some hemp to wrap round the thread before you put the nut on **Q: Can I use for sealing my pop up waste** A: Plumbers mate for basin side as a seal PTFE on threads on plastic side would be my choice but it’s your decision and types of fitting used If not sure ask a tradesman ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does the job well.
