This means that despite being nutritionally similar to their jumbo oat cousins, these oats will raise your blood sugar by less after eating them. Of course the only difference is that pinhead oatmeal is whole oats cut into two or three pieces. Jumbo oats are further processed by steaming and rolling to flatten them. Instant oats are also steamed and rolled and are smaller than jumbo oats. Therefore I thought that if these pinhead oats are slightly better for you, then I may as well give them a try.Compared to more processed oats, these ones are more coarse and take longer to cook properly. The different texture causes them to be more chewy and they have a much more nutty taste that other oats (in my experience). As with other oats, pre-soaking them can help reduce cooking time and allow the oats to absorb more liquid. Everyone has a different preference when it comes to porridge / oatmeal, so it is worth experimenting with different methods of cooking and pre-soaking to find a method that best suits you.These Mintons Good Food pinhead oats in my opinion are better than the other pinhead oats I bought at the same time,  Health Store Pinhead Oatmeal 1 Kg (Pack of 6) . Nutritionally, they have (per 100g) less calories and carbohydrates and more protein (although slightly more fat) than the Health Store ones. That other brand also had a few jumbo oats in the bag. So it would seem that not all pinhead oats are equal. In fact, it may be the case that not all pinhead oats of the same brand are even equal as the nutritional information on my bag differs quite significantly from that in the listing photographs at the time of writing. Per 100g, the bag I received had:Energy 364 kcal / 1525kJFat 9.4gCarbohydrate 47.3gProtein 13.4gSalt 0gThe only ingredient is pinhead oatmeal, it is produce of the UK and the best before date was over ten months away on the date of delivery. For those with allergies, on the bag is stated "this product is packed where nuts & sesame seeds are handled".The taste and texture of my porridge has changed since replacing my jumbo oats, but certainly not for the worse. Overall I am very happy with this pinhead oatmeal and will be buying the Mintons Good Food brand again. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lovely product and great value *by M***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 March 2017* I bought this as an alternative to a more expensive brand. I really can barely notice the difference and its only in terms of each has a slightly different flavour/ texture and now I have forgotten what the last one tasted like. I make this in a batch with water every few days and then just microwave the cooked porridge with a little milk and some sultanas.
