My first purchase also included a plate type platform for my feet, but a plate is not necessary for the product designed use in helping blood and muscle relaxation in feet and calves. I have purchased a 2nd product that only has compactable rubber foot pads and are easily used at home or anywhere else, if you travel. This Triple A powered battery system is also easily used for other sore / strained muscles, on other parts of the body. I get stronger results, if the rubber foot pads are resting on a carpet and not on a solid wood or tile type of flooring.
