Trying to bend the strips of wood correctly without one is tricky so why make life more difficult than it needs to be? This tool will bend planks up to 3 mm thickness. The tool has three wheels, two fixed at the sides and one adjustable on the centre, to adapt the grip to the thickness of the strip and to the curving radius. Under the base there is an adjustable screw to move the main wheel in respect of the other two. Start using the upper wheel and adjust the main wheel in a position to have the necessary grip to move the strip in both directions. The curve will increase a little each passage. To obtain a narrow curve, use the other wheels. Review: How is it used - an answer? - There were no detailed instructions with this product, and it is only through "fiddling & experimenting" I believe I discovered how to use it. I am bending 1.5 mm x 5 mm Lime Wood Strip; this was steamed for 20 minutes in an ordinary kitchen vegetable steamer, and then bent in the Planking Machine. It was actually very good and depending upon which wheel the plank is bent between, it offers quite a bit of versatility; the bend in the plank is very even. I am still learning how to use it, but I am confident it will produced the desired results. Once you start feeding the planks into the device and turning and bending you will quickly work out what you have to do. **Q: Can anyone tell me if this can be used with 3mm dowel please** A: This is designed to be used with flat strip planking and would not work with dowels. **Q: Expecting heating with electric current to bend venerr wood to build guitars & similar string musical instruments** A: This is a mechanical plank bender - no heating involved. **Q: Do you have to soak your planks before using this device ?** A: Sometimes it will do them cold. But only with very thin stuff. I've never soaked them as such, and to be honest, I don't think that soaking is the correct technique. I steam them using the kettle. Steam bending is used by furniture makers and industry. I was thinking of making a purpose built tank. Which would enable me to do lots,at a time. But the kettle makes them pliable. One at a time. The trick is to keep running them through the bender patiently increasing the radios with each pass. Until you achieve your desired bend. Try to do it in one go and it is almost certain that it will snap.
