## Description

If your attic ladder door is 24 x 52 our model 25x54 is the correct size. If your attic ladder door is 21 x 52 our model 22x54 is the correct size. If your attic ladder door is 29 x 52 our model 30x54 is the correct size. HOW DOES THE BATTIC DOOR ATTIC STAIR COVER WORK? The Battic Door Attic Stair Cover works like a storm window for your folding attic stairway opening! The gap around your attic stairway is like an open window. In the cold winter your heat flows right out and cold air flows right in; and in the summer your air-conditioning flows right out and the heat flows right in! The Battic Door Attic Stair Cover covers and seals the stairway opening in effect sealing off this area and blocking the transfer of air and moisture. It also helps to prevent the entry of noise attic dust pollutants insulation insects and rodents into the living area from the attic through the drop-down attic stairway door - all while still being easily removed for rapid access to the attic. The Battic Door Attic Stair Cover is installed over thick soft weatherstripping that is attached to the attic stairway frame (not the structural framing of the building or the attic floor). The Battic Door sinks into the weatherstripping and embeds itself into it effectively limiting air leakage between the conditioned house and the unconditioned attic. The Battic Door Attic Stair Cover rests on thick weatherstripping applied to the attic stairway frame - not the structural framing of the house or the attic floor! The Battic Door installs in minutes and no modifications to your attic floor are needed! Other inferior products that rest on the attic floor (which may or may not exist) can require extensive renovations to work - these hidden installation costs can cost you hundreds of $$$! Some other inferior products fail to provide a seal that resists air leakage. Insulation alone cannot reduce air leakage - you must reduce the air transfer between the conditioned and the unconditoned areas. B

Buy this and you'll feel like an idiot AND a genius at the same time....

First, let me say that this thing REALLY works - the reduction in drafts, hot / cold air, and bugs and debris coming through the attic stair hatch is impressive. As in ZERO. You will, however, feel like a total idiot when you first open the package and realize that you just paid $130 for what is essentially a cardboard box with a mylar fabric cover and about $5 worth of insulation. (My wife burst out laughing when I told her how much I paid, she of little faith.) I thought, "I could make this thing for $20." Yeah, and a few hours of my time driving all over to every home improvement, hardware and craft store in town to round up all the materials. Good thing (for them) that they have this thing patented - if they ever took this on "Shark Tank", without a patent they'd get laughed off the set.I do wish the box was made of that "plastic cardboard" corrugated material (like that used in yard signs, etc.) instead of just regular cardboard (yep, it's just a cardboard box, seriously). If you are going to be buying some batt insulation as part of an attic insulation project anyway, or have some leftover pieces laying around, you can save yourself about $40 by looking for the version without the "optional" insulation (which is really not optional in my opinion) and adding your own. But it would be stupid to buy a whole pack or roll of batt for $30 - $40 if you don't need insulation for anything else. Just swallow your pride, set your Home Improvement Hero ego aside, and pay the man. It's still WAY better than any of the other similar products out there. One upgrade I would recommend is to get a roll of good quality HVAC metal tape (the kind with the peel-off back, NOT plain old duct tape) and use a few strips around the bottom lip to hold the mylar cover to the cardboard box. Otherwise, the cover has a tendency to get pushed up when you fit the box into the frame of the stair opening. And make sure you get the right size - there are at least three sizes of stair openings out there. Don't guess, measure it (go to the manufacturers website for details on how to measure).

    Easy Peasy

*by M***E on Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2012*

This was easy to put together, just like the website said. I have a tight space at the top of my stairs but I was able to put this together and install it in about 20 minutes. Make sure that you put it together inside the attic. The box was a bit finicky in that it did not want to snap in place at first. Simply pull the side in as you are pulling the end flap over and it will "click" into place faster. It also appears that it could benefit from some additional insulation on the sides and ends inside the box. I will check the surface temp of the sides versus the top in a couple of weeks to see.Along with adding an additional R19 of blown insulation in the attic I expect this to reduce my energy cost of my upstairs unit. It appears that the 95+ degree days are about over but I will watch the performance of my upstairs AC (it never shut off and could not stay below 79 at the peak of the heat). I could tell the difference from pre to post installation on the temperature of the stair cover. So far so good. This definitely beats the option that the insulator recommended. He reduced his quote to me by $310 and his cover was only R3.5. This unit was $147 delivered and 20 minutes to install after the insulator was done with the attic. He wanted the information that came with the product.

    it'll probably save $

*by T***S on Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2011*

This product is grossly overpriced, but if I paid to send it back and then paid to drive to the hardware store, I wouldn't wind up saving that much. Seems like it will probably pay for itself quickly, but I think they could sell this for half as much and still make a handsome profit. If I had the time, I'd publish an on-line how-to, charge $8 for it, and people could make this themselves for $30.
