They are typically too thin and non absorbent. Use a pipe cleaner made for pipe cleaning. These are made for pipe cleaning **Q: What kind of wire is used? Is it aluminum that will become brittle and break over time or another metal that will work harden?** A: These bend fairly easily. I can’t tell you for sure what kind of metal it is but it is very soft. **Q: Are these cleaners non-shedding? Bought hundreds. Can clean places q tips can’t. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Pipe Cleaners *by A***R on October 24, 2025* Pipe cleaners are priced fairly and work well. I am pleased with them!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ You gone get what you pay for *by J***S on December 14, 2019* I bought these to clean my Pax vaporizer. I had previously bought the Zen brand that’s also available on Amazon, and while those are decent, these are easily superior quality. These remind me of the ones that originally came with my vape. Complaints about them being too prickly seem unjustified. The Zens I used before did the job, but I was constantly getting stuck by them, to the point that I’d often feel the need to check whether I broke skin while cleaning. With these, I can grip as tightly as I would ever possibly need to. I feel like you’d have to be trying to grasp these with full force to really get stuck by them. Despite that, they work at least as well as the seemingly more abrasive Zen ones. I’d say these actually work better, because I can hold them properly and thus bear down like I need to. With the Zen cleaners, I had to balance the force needed to clean with the aggravation of being pricked. With these, I can detail as much as I want. I haven’t seen any particulate left behind by either brand. For cleaning the Pax you’re supposed to use isopropyl, which I allow to absorb into the pipe cleaner. I haven’t noticed any difference in the absorbency of the two brands, so this wasn’t a distinguishing feature for me. For the Pax, isopropyl will do most of the cleaning work, so a hard bristle isn’t really as necessary as it probably would be for an actual pipe with lots of carbon built up. At the same time, I would rather use 3 of these than 1 of the Zen because I doubt very seriously that the sharper bristles make for that much more cleaning power relative to the annoyance of getting pricked - especially if getting stuck makes properly cleaning too aggravating to do. Plus, each pipe cleaner can only absorb so much grime anyway, so a harder bristle won’t get you that much (if any) more mileage. Also, the fibers of the Mantello cleaners feels softer, and I suspect that this could actually allow for greater absorbency. Overall, the Zens are cheaper, but unless you really feel like that $1 or $2 difference is going to have a profound impact on your life, I would wholly recommend going for these over the Zens.
