My younger dog would also calm with 2 but maybe for only an hour but 4 was great and would make him sleepy. 3 chews was the sweet spot for him to enjoy his day and not be stressed or sleepy. Neither of them have had stomach upset or diarrhea problems from these chews. I will definitely be reordering these if I run out. I also found that they helped their stress related to unknown loud dogs that we would walk/hike by, camp next too, etc. They were less likely to automatically react to another dog just because they were there and would only alert me to their presence if the other dogs were lunging at us, barking, at the door, etc. Definitely worth the price and my dogs find them very tasty.
