I found this tape very helpful in hemming a shirt I shortened. It was easy to apply and sticky enough to hold the hem in place while I folded and sewed it. Even allowed for repositioning. I doubt if the tape would be much use for knits or heavy weight fabrics but works for cotton type and light weight fabrics. After application and sewing I soaked the garment in warm water then washed as normal. There seemed to be no residue remaining from the tape, no extra stiffness in the hem. A more experienced sewer might not see the need but I found this tape useful and can see me finding other applications in the future. However, I would suggest that you try a bit on some spare fabric before commiting to sticking it allover your best project. FYI, I stuck apiece of this onto my thumb and ran it under hot water and it did disolve. Using it on fabric, I would think that a couple of washes will get it all out. I have found this tape to be very useful when sticking together stretch seams in preparation to stitching. Also, this tape does not make your sewing machinem needle sticky. **Q: Can you sew through it without gumming up sewing machine needle?** A: I machine sew through it without any problems at all, but find hand sewing more prone to ending up with a sticky needle. The needles can be easily cleaned with Isopropyl Alcohol or Surgical Spirit on a cotton pad. **Q: does this need to be heat set?** A: Nope, you lay your chosen length on to ,say your fabric, peel off the white strip.Then place your zip or fabric on top , smooth down. Then stitch in place. No need to remove tape. Done. **Q: Does this give a professional finish when hemming knits with an ordinary sewing machine please** A: It definitely helps with hemming knits, as long as you don't stretch the fabric as you are pressing the two layers together. I have found it also helps with tunnelling with a twin needle, especially when you use it where you are going to stitch.
