Cap and shake until all the potassium iodide is dissolved (This should now be a saturated solution of KI made with 15 grams of KI and water.) Set aside. **Q: I am looking for 'iodine crystals' to make lugol's. Which one of your products do I use?** A: You need "Potassium Iodide" and "Prilled Iodine Crystals" to make Lugol's. I don't see any Prilled Iodine on amazon right now (there is one listing but it is sold out). Search ebay for Prilled Iodine. **Q: I am looking for sodium iodide to make elephants toothpaste, will potassium iodide work the same?** A: I actually bought this a few months back for a science project myself involving elephant toothpaste. This does work, however when combined with 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, it is a terribly slow reaction. Combined with 35% Hydrogen Peroxide though was the best combination my partner and I saw.
