Medlars taste sharp until fully ripe and will ripen further if left on the tree until frosts threaten. Harvest the fruits to complete their ripening and softening indoors. Medlars are delicious served with Port and cheese or cooked into jellies and desserts. Common Medlar trees are self-fertile and therefore do not require a pollination companion.
