## Description

Summon Night 6: Lost Borders weaves an emotional tale of friendship and discovery that begins in the sparsely populated "cocoon world" of Fillujah, where the three main characters (Raj, Amu and Ist) live in virtual isolation. Each has a single companion, a flying sidekick with an amazing special power, and they are all surprised when dozens of strangers begin to suddenly appear-literally falling out of the clear, blue sky. Lost Borders can be played and enjoyed without any knowledge of the previous games in the series, but fans will recognize that the mysterious strangers are actually returning characters from all of the mainline Summon Night games. Originally released in Japan as a celebration of the award-winning series' 15th anniversary, Summon Night 6: Lost Borders offers gorgeous widescreen graphics presented in high definition, a first for the series. The fully 3-D battle system allows Chain Attacks that happen automatically when an enemy is surrounded by two or more allies; in these situations, each ally can hit the enemy without risk of counterattack. In addition to the Summons that are a hallmark of the series, two allies can team up for a breathtaking "Summon Burst" attack that invokes a devastating magical strike from one of many giant fantastical creatures. Combat is only one part of the Summon Night 6 experience. The series is well known for its "night conversations"-one-on-one encounters where various characters confide in one another, leading to a web of elaborate, emotional storytelling with many different branching paths. Lost Borders also includes several charming mini-games: One has you fishing for different types of aquatic creatures, while another involves cooking power-up meals using the bounty you've caught with your fishing pole.

### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars

It's hard to fully enjoy the game

*by J***Z on Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2018*

It's hard to fully enjoy the game, but as a fan of the genre, a grid-based SJRPG ( like fire emblem, but more like luminous arc/stella glow) I had to try it out. This review is being written as I am 40% through the game. The simple Overall review will be at the very bottom.Plot: 6/10This game holds a collection of characters throughout the summon night series and outside of Japan, we only have had 2 games, so I will treat this game a little more as a standalone. The plot is okay at best so far. We're dealing with multiple timelines, alternate universes, and questioning how we all ended up here. This concept is hit or miss and so far it feels like a miss. It's more on the bearable side, but usually characters are just thrown in, wait... that's what the plot is like.Voice acting: 6/10To be on the more optimistic side, I want to say half of the English ( this game is only in English outside of Japan) voices are bearable or work well, but others really fall short. There is also not a lot of voice acting throughout the game, but that can be expected. That being said there's still a noticeable lack of voice acting in the game that could help me enjoy these characters more, but not really.Music: 8/10To be honest, I need to mention that the music in this game is really good.Gameplay: 6.5/10The game mechanics are so dull and need some basic stuff in it.There is height advantage in this game, but no way mid-fight can you look for a way to tell you if your magic spell can hit someone 3 heights above or lower than you. Also, it doesn't. the range and height of a lot of attacks are really short and almost all characters have no personality in combat. All characters can use basically the same magic as everyone else except a VERY FEW can't heal. physical attacks are almost indifferent at the moment as people with swords and staffs do the same damage in most situations. No one can jumper higher than others, 1 person runs farther than 3 blocks, and this causes a lot of problems if the map is set up where you can only basically bunch up your people as you travel up a hill together, I think that is set up more like that because because in this game, ASSISTS are very useful function. It allows characters to use close allies to buff their magic and there is no limit to assists as much as I can tell. This is a nice concept because it sometimes adds 1 range to the magic attack, but I don't like bunching up my characters like Black Friday shoppers. You can obtain skills through progression, but from what I see, I don't no if my complains about personality in combat style or movement will change throughout.Characters: 6/10They are all stereotypical/tropes, Voice acting doesn't help build a liking to many of them, but I can say I still do like some characters. After each chapter you can sit on a roof and have personal time with an individual character which is nice, but I can't really say that it connects me to them in any significant way.Art: 6.5/10It's nothing groundbreaking or to write home about. Monsters are recycled. meh. not much to say.Overall: 6/10The main reason I am playing this game is because the genre of this game. Outside of that, I don't really want to play this game. The voice acting and plot feel thrown just like the characters. The combat relies on sticking together, but that is boring and it's missing some basic elements. All in all this game isn't memorable and probably isn't worth your game unless you're looking to scratch your Grid Based JRPG or Summon Night series itch.THOSE ARE THE ONLY REASONS YOU MIGHT PICK UP THIS GAME

Fun, easy-going JRPG with some questionable dubbing.

Summon Night is a series that I have largely missed. There were some previous GBA games that I played and enjoyed a fair amount. But I assume most people reading reviews here would be unfamiliar with the series anyway, so know you're in good company. This is a game for people who describe games positively as "comfy." The gameplay is fast, and has some complexity, but doesn't often stress. It is a fairly basic TRPG, akin to a Tactics Ogre or Disgaea, but relatively simpler. It has well done auto-play features, for if you want to grind out a bit to level new characters.Which brings us to what this game is really about, the characters. There are a lot of them. Summon Night is old enough that it seems to come from that tradition of JRPG that loves it's own history. They reference it, they love to mention little characters or actions from previous games. This one is a full on crossover game, with characters from the entire series meeting up to fight some new evil of sorts. Yet, I did not feel overwhelmed, I did not feel lost. The characters interact pleasantly. You get to hang out with characters at night and learn more about them (A classic part of the series apparently, even if this is a common feature today). Everything is very pleasant. You will find the characters you love the most and stick with them. And that's really what this game is about. The story itself is nothing much to mention, you've probably seen it before if you've played a JRPG, or watched an anime. It's there, and it's fine. It's all really an excuse for the characters. To give you something to do while you interact and learn more about your video game friends. Much like the Persona series, if you want a hang-out simulator this is a fine game for you. At the price it sells now, 20 bucks, I think it's a great little game to play. It won't change your world, but it is one of those fun little games you can look back at, happy that you experienced it.Also, I want to shill for this company because I loved Working Designs, and Gaijin Works is basically Working Designs 2.0.

    Really enjoyed this game

This SJRPG is actually good, it offers more replay value and fun compared to another SJRPG God Wars. Plenty of content, no crashes and the gameplay is fun.I like the fact they also include collectible encyclopedia like format for characters and the world of the series, it gives newcomers an inside look at Summon Night as a whole without having to play the others. Theres a lot of character interactions too which make it more engaging and enjoyable to further add to this very well done game. The job system is a flexible and easy to use function unlike GW, which makes changing them annoying. There's crafting of food, fishing, summon upgrades, weapon upgrading, job system, Encyclopedia entries, over 20 endings, character bios, bloopers, quest dispatch, relationships which determine ending, New Game +, shops for materials and accessories and auto-AI control thats optional for your characters. The voices may not be the best but I don't see that as a reason to heavily knock down the game, Jrpg's mostly have mediocre voices and stories which is expected from the genre,.Its like most Jrpg's don't care to do a more thought out story or avoid plot holes just like its anime counterpart. which I hate about JRPG's. The graphics are not bad, they are clean and cartoonish but not anything fully detailed like more realistic games from the west. The story here isn't anything great either and some of the lines sound unoriginal and cheesy as well.Works very good on my PS4 Gen1 stock system, the loading times are decent too. I wish I could give it a 4.2 without giving it a full 5 stars but I really enjoyed this game. I'm surprised theres even a game manual as well included. Please give it a try, its worth it if your into SJRPG's.
